“As the bombing stops—THIS GIRL TRON”
This front cover of Life, read by millions of subscribers, is a Larry Burrows photograph of Nguyen Thi Tron, a twelve-year-old Vietnamese girl who lost the lower part of her leg to gunfire from a US helicopter, staring at a craftsman finishing work on her wooden artificial leg. Martha Rosler used this image in an anti-war photomontage on the back cover of the third issue of the small-circulation underground San Diego-based newspaper Goodbye to All That! on October 13, 1970.
